Epic Battles Waged Throughout The Metaverse!
Published on December 9, 2003 By Theoden of Rohan In PC Gaming
It is a time of unprecedented chaos in the Metaverse. Conflict has erupted everywhere and the thirst for victory has engulfed almost everyone. The Jedi Republic, in what can only be considered the most hawkish behavior ever, declared war on the European Alliance. This move was considered by many to be unprovoked, but it has been learned the Jedi were merely executing a pre-emptive strike guarding against any future hostilities from the Euros. After an initial victory by the Euros, which moved past the Jedi for third place, some of the Jedi who had been on leave were immediately summoned. Their return fueled a burst of activity, which moved the Jedi back into third place. Reports are sketchy, but there is some word that the quick turnaround was due to a Jedi special weapon, codenamed "Eraser". No further information on this project is available at this time.

Skirmishes were reported at the border between Fellowship space and Special Forces territory. The commandos from SpecFor had moved to within a few thousand points of the Fellowship and first place, before being repulsed by some quick defensive activity by the Ringfolk. Reports from inside Fellowship space say one of the Elven overlords returned to help in the struggle and it has been verified that Matthew Downie indeed has returned. Upon his return, Emperor Ray the Wanderer immediately promoted Downie (pronounced "Downie", which is very difficult to say in Elven-speak) to the Fellowship Council. It appears the conflict between the Fellowship and SpecFor has calmed for the moment and the Fellowship maintain about a 350,000 point lead over SpecFor.

Mid Western Confederation, who had recently been bounced by the Euros, are using the conflict between the Europeans and the Jedi to launch their own offensive. In the past, MWC anti-matter missiles have proven to be deadly and the Euros now are in the ultimate squeeze. A battle on two fronts is a very difficult task, indeed. Only 50,000 points separate the Euros and MWC.

The Evil Empire is also feeling the strain of a two front battle, as they are seeking to pass the Undead of the Canadian Star Federation, while holding off the pirates of G.R.O.S.S. The stain of Evil is spreading as more and more vile demons join the ranks of the Evil Empire.

Realms Beyond is still vying for ninth place as the ANZAC Imperium remains on the defensive. Reports from the front say this battle is going to be a long, drawn out affair due to the fact that Realms Beyond commonly wage Technological warfare and seek Beyond Human victory. This slows their advance somewhat, but there are some signs that reinforcements may be arriving at Realms Beyond.

The Republic of Aldar is still trying to distance itself from Gamma Squad. The empire which flies the banner of "Last Kid Picked" stands at 12th place for now but looks to advance on their next target, Apolyton, soon. Gamma Squad is not going quietly, however.

Another three-way battle is going on between Viraxian Ascension, PanGaea Cooperative, and Arnor. This battle of 16, 17 and 18th place is very close with less than 5,000 points seperating them all. PanGaea and Arnor are currently engaged in hand-to-hand combat in the trenches as only 700 points divide them! Whoever emerges victorious from this battle may be a threat to 15th place Babylonia very soon!

This week's Spotlight Empire is another lone ranger of the Metaverse. Emperor Raleigh of Seekers of Enlightenment empire is currently seeking overlords to join with him in his struggle for galactic dominance. Though not much is known of this new empire, which only colonized in November, 2003, Emperor Raleigh is making a name for himself as he stands at 23rd place by himself. Overlords who looking for a new challenge in the Metaverse should consider joining this fledgling empire at their Metaverse Empire page. It is hoped that Raleigh will start a communication thread soon, to faciltate a more efficient means of recruitment and diplomacy.
